A weekend in Beantown!

Favorite Moments of the Trip: (no significant order)

1. The nut job that sat behind us on the Fung Wah Bus. Pretty entertaining.
2. Paying $17.00 for parking, to eat at Chilli's for an hour.
3. Strolling around Harvard Square with two of my favorites, Natalie and Mel.
4. The sight of attractive men, non metros!
5. Riding in Nat's car, singing with the window's down and the heat blasting.
6. Sharing a queen bed with Nat and Mel (I would take Nat any day...Mel, well she may just need her own bed).
7. THE CHEESECAKE FACTORY
8. The Prank phone call I received at 2:30am... and they thought we wouldn't find out!
9. The beautiful Boston neighborhoods (we even saw Jen Garner and Ben Affleck's house, right by the LDS church).
10. A trip to the Texas Roadhouse...we even did a few rounds of "rank order"

Worst part of the trip:

Wasting TWO hours on the worst movie EVER, Catch & Release. Not a huge fan.

The Mickelsen Clan

It is a Wednesday night. I am tired, and should go to bed soon. My thoughts are with my family. I miss them! The last couple of nights I take my laptop to bed with me and view all of my pictures from the last year. Over the last few months, the importance of family and the role they play in my life, has taken on a new meaning for me. You may be reading this thinking to yourself, “this entry is extremely cheesy”, but I write what's on my mind. Tonight, I feel very grateful for my immediate and extended family. I am overwhelmed by the kindness and love extended to my family continuously. It is easy to get distracted, and get caught up in the material things of the world. I am grateful for experiences that require me to slow down and remember the things that matter most. Anyway, thanks for putting up with the ultra cheese…I just wanted to give a shout out to the Mickelsen fam, and all my extended family and let them know I am grateful for the role they play in my life!

"Ooh heaven is a place on earth!"

Saturday was a good day. I love my Saturday's in the city. I usually take the opportunity to sleep in, occasionally we'll do brunch with some friends, and most always go shopping. We did some shopping at Union Square on Saturday hitting up the costume shops, in search for the perfect 80's prom dress. Yes, you heard right. This Saturday I will be sporting my favorite era, at "The Awesome 80's Prom, an interactive off-broadway show. After a cold day, wandering around Union Square, discouraged to have not found the perfect dress, we (myself, Mel and Karen) found a little piece of heaven. I discovered Max Brenner: Chocolate by the Bald Man. Ladies, all you chocolate lovers, this place is for you. I really felt like I was in the movie, "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory." It is true that few legal substances exert as strong a pull as chocolate. I was one of the " slightly dazed and practically drooling" customers in this fine restaurant on Saturday evening. To top off my delicious meal and dessert (yes we got both) my Israeli waiter was gorgeous! Icing on the cake. I am told there may be some correlations between chocolate and well, other things. Maybe my waiter wasn't really all that attractive. Perhaps I indulged in a little too much chocolate. I really had a perm-a-grin when I finished my meal. What a good evening! Lesley get excited for this one!

The Painted Veil

Beautiful! I highly recommend seeing the movie, "The Painted Veil". The movie was beautifully photographed, accompanied with amazing costumes and music. Both Edward Norton and Naomi Watts did an excellent job in this film. For me there was little resemblance to the current, superficial, mainstream films. It was nice to go back in time and watch a romantic, uplifting movie.

"Bermuda, bahama come on pretty mama"

Basically I get one thing on my mind, and I'm obsessed! Spring break is March 10th. My current obsession is Grotto Bay Beach Resort, in Bermuda. Tell me, how could this not consume you?? Maybe...just maybe, I will get there!

Back to the Grind

So yesterday was my first day back to school! My morning didn't get off to the greatest start. Mel and I are walking to school and we run into our professor from hell. After an awkward interaction, I was quickly reminded of why I am so sick of school. This morning I had to attend a meeting at school, and guess who is on the elevator when I have to go up...this awful professor! She really is terrible. Anyway, on a positive note....my teacher's this semester seem very interesting and knowledgeable. I am excited. I am taking a class, "Social Work Practice with Couples", and my professor handed out a funny article. You may have read this before, but I will just highlight some of the funny points in the article.

The Good Wife's Guide (Housekeeping Monthly 13 May 1955)

-Have dinner ready. Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal ready, on time for his return. This is a way of letting him know that you have been thinking about him and are concerned about his needs. Most men are hungry when they come home and the prospect of a good meal (especially his favourite dish) is part of the warm welcome needed.

- Be a little gay and a little more interesting for him. His boring day may need a lift and one of your duties is to provide it.

-Over the cooler months of the year you should prepare and light a fire for him to unwind by. Your husband will feel he has reached a haven of rest and order, and it will give you a lift too. After all, catering for his comfort will provide you with immense personal satisfaction.

-Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soothing and pleasant voice.

-A good wife always knows her place.
