The Color Code

Ahh the joys of single life and roommates. The other night we decided to take the color code test. We all were extremely busy and had meaningful things to accomplish, but instead we choose to take an hour to take the test, analyze and compare our responses. HILARIOUS. I,Ms. Mickelsen read the questions and choices to my class. Often times my students (particularly Ms. Wahlee) got easily distracted by objects such as an exercise ball, in which she had to be reminded again and again to focus on the test. It turns out the three of us participating in the test were all Blue/Whites. We decided because all three of us are the same, it must be the best combination of colors! Let me share what I learned. Blues and Whites are both inclined to be concerned with feelings and are low key in their approach to each other. Interestingly, according to the Color Code book, Blue women may become bored with White husbands, while Blue men remain appreciative of their White companions' accepting ways. Blues comment positively on the peaceful nature, kindness, willingness to listen, tolerance, and patience of Whites. Whites appreciate Blues for their sincerity, leadership, tactful assertion, and loyalty. Anyway, if it has been a while and you think you've changed, or if you've never taken this test, check it out here.
I am curious to learn what colors we have out there!

Welcome Fall

I hesitate to welcome in the fall season, although I truly do love this time of year. It does make me a little sad to put away my flip flops and shorts. I love, love, LOVE the warm weather and summer nights. However, I do love a change in seasons. So fall, I officially welcome you. It is a good opportunity to start new goals, make needed improvements in our lives, and start watching evening television! ha. Because I somewhat fear the cold weather, I've decided to make a list of things I love about the fall. This will help remind me how great this time of year can be!

1. Back-to-School/Work shopping. Growing up, we would go back-to-school shopping every year. Fortunately (unfortunate for my pocket book) I have continued this tradition in my later years.

2. College Football. Yea for the cougs victory this weekend! Too bad for the Utes.

3. Television. The next seasons of my favorite shows are coming right up. I may have cheated and watched the premier of FNL online...I loved it! I can't wait for the Office!

4. The leaves change colors! I love evening drives/walks in the fall. It is absolutely gorgeous in this area. I kind of want to drive to upstate New York this time of year...any takers?!

5. HOLIDAYS!!!!!!!! Holiday season gets me really excited. This time of year there is much more emphasis on serving and giving to others. I love it. I love holiday music, festivities, decorations, foods, etc. I need to start thinking about my Halloween costume. We'll have to save that thought for another post.

6. Change in wardrobe. By the end of the summer I am missing my fall clothes. It is fun to get my jackets, and pants out and wear things for the "first" time of the season.

7. General Conference. In a couple of weeks I get to listen to President Hinckley and all the others leaders of my church.

8. The closer we approach the holiday season, the sooner I get to see my family! Oh how I miss that Mickelsen crew.

9. Hot Chocolate/ Starbucks Steamers. It is not cold enough yet for this, but I am easily talked into a toffee nut steamer. Delicious!

10. Routine. Summer is great(probably my favorite season)! It is a very laid back, relaxing time of year. Especially after being unemployed all summer, I look forward to having more structure and routine in my life.

Anyway, this by no means is a comprehensive list of why I love the fall! I am just excited for changes the new season brings.

I can't handle this!

I love NYC. But honestly, one of the incentives to moving to DC was the cleanliness of the district. The metro is much nicer and well kept, AND I have not seen a single RAT since I've lived here. This makes me very happy.
Unfortunately DC, more specifically, MY HOUSE has issues with SPIDERS. I hate spiders. My bedroom is on the ground level. There is access to our small backyard from my bedroom, and it also is positioned near the garage door. This means BUGS! And the strangest bugs I have ever seen.

What is this little guy? He has millions of appendages and the body of a worm. This little bug can move as well. Not too long ago I had a friend over and we spotted this creature on my ceiling. We both were very grossed out and perplexed by the appearance of this creepy spider. Luckily I had a bottle of Raid Max roach/spider killer. It kills them immediately.
MY NEW BEST FRIEND!!

Does anyone have any solutions to spider problems? I need to do something ASAP to remedy this issue. HELP!

Haley at the beach!

My sister just posted this video on her blog. I wanted to share with all my friends how adorable my niece is! I really, REALLY miss this little girl. Isn't she precious?! Lesley and Jared celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary at Cannon Beach this past weekend. I couldn't have asked for a better brother-in-law. I love the Huff family and hope to see you guys soon!

He's bringing SEXY BACK!!

One thing I love about being in training, is that I get home in time to watch Oprah! I really do enjoy this show, especially when guests like JT are on!! I have been anticipating this day all week. Thanks Mel for the reminder text! He is just adorable. Ladies, wouldn't you all agree? Mel called me during commercial break to discuss how incredibly charming this young man is. I even enjoyed his duet with Reba. Thank you Oprah for providing such wonderful entertainment and THANK YOU Justin for bringing sexy back!

"Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose!"

I haven't been in the mood to blog lately. My apologies for a non-exciting blog. I will work on that!

Anyway, this weekend I traveled to NYC and met up with my girls! What a fabulous weekend I had. The trip started off right, as a sexy, 2nd year John Hopkins med school student sat next to me. Fortunately we chatted almost half the time, which made the bus ride much more bearable!

It was wonderful being in the city again. It was my first time back since I moved. I was reminded of all the fun things to do in the city. Most of all, I enjoyed spending time with my girlfriends. I seriously love these girls. It's amazing how comfortable and natural it felt to be there visiting. I love friendships that allow you to pick right back up where you left off. Pretty much we did what New Yorker's do best: shop and eat. We started the Saturday off with brunch in Tribeca, at a quaint little place called Bubby's. I got my usual brunch order of french toast. Mel, Karen and I walked around a street fair in Little Italy Saturday afternoon. It was such a nice day to be walking around the city. I do miss all the walking I used to do. Later that evening we went dancing, out to dinner, and of course ended our nights with Tim Riggins. It's almost spiritual for us; I think Mel was even crying in one of the episodes :) Can't wait for season 2 to begin!

Thanks girls for a fun weekend! The weekend couldn't have been any better (except for a BYU victory, of course).

Mel was just a little cold standing outside, waiting to go into the club!

TGIF

My Friday night was quite enjoyable. My plan initially was to attend the Orioles vs Red Sox game at Camden Yards, but the game sold out. Instead a group of us went out for pizza, bowling, and then milkshakes. Sometimes you got to splurge...right?! For all of you locals, I highly recommend Silver Diner for a yummy Oreo malt! Much of our conversation at the diner was dedicated to reminiscing old tv shows and remember their theme songs. I must admit, I was pretty pleased with my performance in this game. We discussed old favorites such as Family Ties, Full House, Save by the Bell, macgyver, Perfect Strangers, Boy Meets World, Family Matters, Hanging with Mr. Cooper, Step by Step, Who's the Boss, Growing Pains, Just the ten of us, Doogie Howser, MD, Coach, Wonder Years, Life Goes On, etc., etc. I was obsessed with TGIF as a child. I faithfully watched every Friday with family and friends, and can remember planning my evenings around these four shows.

The group was pretty good about remember theme songs, however we did get stumped on Perfect Strangers. Remember Balki Bartokomous?? And how he was from some fiction greek country?! Thank goodness for the internet and YouTube! Anyway enjoy these segments of our youth! What were your favorite staple tv shows growing up?!

Girls Camp 2007

Oh wait, there were boys there too. This weekend I attended my ward retreat at camp greentop. It was gorgeous weather and a beautiful camp ground. Overall, I am glad that I went to the retreat that was intended to change my life forever. A few reasons why camp greentop brought me back to my girls camp days:

A. girl talk in the cabins
B. team building games which consisted of "red rover" and the "human knot" (luckily my cabin slept in and skipped breakfast and the majority of the team building games).
C. A "what to bring" list handed out before the big trip. Don't forget your sanitary napkins girls!
D. testimony meeting on Sunday. I will just leave it at that.
E. the standard skit night consisting of lip sync dances and a human puppet show.

The ride up was a blast! Although the campground was only an hour and a half away, we made sure to have the necessary road trip snacks: cookies, licorice, and sour patch kids. The decided theme song of the weekend was the Britney Spears Megamix. The boys were really getting into this one :)

Here are a few shots from our weekend in the woods:

Saturday we had some free time and escaped to the lake.

Who said you couldn't look fabulous in the woods (after not showering the entire weekend!)???
